About Me

I have spent 35 years in the commercial sector and have a wealth of experience and knowledge. Initially working with High Street retailers, I moved into the heritage sector in 1997. Here I have held senior management positions managing the strategic and operational direction of shops, events and cafés. During this time, I notched up a number of notable achievements and led on a number of major projects. 

I also delivered a project to become the first Carbon Literate Museum in the UK, using an assessed program for all staff which I wrote and delivered in collaboration with a colleague from Museum Development North West. I believe that  the Heritage Sector should be guided and driven by your organisation's values, which should guide both exhibition and commercial policy. To this end I developed both Fair Trade and Sustainable Trade models and have lectured on both widely to retail groups.

I have recently provided consultancy services to :-

Historic England -  Developed, wrote and delivered two series of  Commercial Webinars

Warwickshire Wildlife Trust - Assisted in planning a major shop refit and merchandise plan.

Burnley Council - Supported traders with businesses advise in Padiham High Street and Burnley Markets 

Portland Basin Museum - Carried out bench marking exercise and put a new merchandising scheme together. 

Married with one child,  my proudest achievements include 24 years’ service in the Army Reserve as a commissioned officer as a combat medic and latterly unit Public Relations Officer during which time I was awarded the Lord Lieutenant's Commendation for devotion to duty with the Reserve Forces. I am also a very committed Carbon Literacy facilitator and trainer, and for fun coach my local football clubs' under-14s’ team.
